Expansion of Solace

Anti-social behaviour – ASB for short – is described in law as anything that causes harassment, alarm or distress and is directed at people or places. It is the bane of many people’s lives ranging from such extremes of conduct as inconsiderate parking, to a dispute with a neighbour that ends in violence.‘Solace’ – meaning relief, comfort, support – brings together a team of dedicated Police Officers, Police Community Support Officers and council officers, who work with communities to tackle incidents of high and medium level ASB as well as repeat incidents. And if you feel they are not doing enough about a problem affecting you or your neighbourhood, you can ask for an ASB case review that will work with you to establish if any more can be done.

One such ASB case review was commissioned recently to discuss ongoing incidents in the Barton area of Gloucester. Concerns were voiced around the Sinope Street car park, which is currently subject to a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO). PSPOs are intended to prevent particular nuisances or problems, which impact on the local community, from occurring or recurring. And in the process, ensuring that public spaces can be enjoyed without anti-social behaviour.

The Sinope Street Car Park directive follows similar orders now in place in Stroud, Cheltenham and Cinderford in the Forest of Dean. Furthermore, two men have had civil injunctions placed on them following reports of anti-social behaviour, another faces a charge of causing criminal damage and a civil injunction on a third man is currently going through the courts.

Further evidence that ‘Solace’ is doing what was intended.
